Understanding the student visa

A solid study plan, a convincing file

The student visa is a long-stay visa that allows you to pursue higher education in the host country. For Belgium, it is issued by the embassy after reviewing your enrolment, your financial means and documents such as the medical certificate and, for adults, the criminal record extract.

Each country has its own procedure: in France, most students go through Campus France's "Études en France" platform before the visa; in Switzerland, the permit depends on the cantonal authorities; in the United Kingdom, the institution issues a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) on which the "Student visa" is based.

Beyond the documents, the consulate assesses how coherent your plan is: why these studies, in this country, at this point in your path? We help you present a clear, logical and well-motivated plan — that is often what separates an accepted file from a refused one.

Mistakes to avoid

What makes a student visa fail

A student visa is rarely refused for a single reason: it is often a combination of small doubts. A guarantor whose income is not clearly proven, a course unrelated to previous studies, an enrolment obtained too late…

We work with you in advance so that every element tells the same story: that of a serious student with a well-thought-out plan and secure funding.

  • A study plan inconsistent with previous diplomas.
  • Incomplete proof of means or a guarantor with poorly documented income.
  • Diplomas not legalised or missing translations.
  • An application submitted too close to the start of the academic year.

What Fatma Travel does for you

  • Analysis of your situation

First, we study your profile, your plans and the destination country to choose the right visa and spot the weak points in the file.

  • Tailor-made document list

You receive a clear list, adapted to your case and checked against the official requirements in force — nothing unnecessary, nothing forgotten.

  • Document-by-document check

We review every document: consistency of dates, amounts, names, translations. This is where most refusals are decided.

  • Forms and appointments

We fill in the forms with you and help you get an appointment at the visa centre or embassy.

  • Interview preparation

If there is an interview, we prepare you for the usual questions so you can answer clearly and confidently.

  • Follow-up until the decision

We stay reachable until the consulate replies, with a French-speaking team in Brussels and in Burundi.

  • After a refusal

We analyse the reasons for the refusal and advise you: appeal, a better-documented new application, or another strategy.

Frequently asked questions

When should I start the process?

Ideally 9 to 12 months before the start of the academic year. Applications, equivalences and visa procedures take time, and appointments are in high demand in summer.

Can I work during my studies?

In most countries, yes, but with hour limits set by law and sometimes a permit. We explain the rules of the chosen country — student work cannot serve as the main proof of means.

Who can be my guarantor?

A relative with sufficient, regular income who commits to covering your costs. Requirements vary by country: we check that the guarantor's file meets expectations before submission.

Does Fatma Travel also help with accommodation and the ticket?

Yes. As well as the visa, we can book your flight and accommodation for your first weeks, while you find student housing.
